Brown rice is a whole grain - the hull is removed but the germ and bran remain intact, resulting in a richer texture, nuttier taste and higher fibre, vitamin and mineral content.  Sourced by Sovereign Foods from Marlivale Farms in the Nimbin Valley of Northern NSW.  This rice is rain-fed rather than irrigated, and grown without the use of chemicals.

Slater Farms (Brett & Karen Slater) is the home of “Rainfed Rice”, a certified biodynamic farm where crops are naturally rain irrigated, saving critical water resources.  Their white rice is a true multi-purpose rice, with its use case changing depending on how much you rinse it.  Less rinsing for a sticker rice for risotto or sushi, or lots of rinsing (4 or 5 times is not excessive!) for a fluffier dish.  

Cooking Ideas:

  • Serve as a base for curries, stews, or stir-fries.

  • Use in salads or grain bowls for added texture.

  • Prepare as a side dish with roasted vegetables or meats.

  • Incorporate into rice puddings or other desserts.

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to maintain freshness.
